Many thanks to all our helpers today – in particular:

  • The volunteers who gave their time to support our event; not least from Maidstone who helped get everything ready for today.

  • Our referees, scorers and line judges for their contribution to today’s matches.

  • Thanks, also, to those who helped choose the MVPs from today’s matches.

  • 4th, but by no means last, all the supporters who came along to cheer on the teams.

Thanks to all teams for giving us matches played in the right spirit.

Women’s Plate Final

Today’s match almost saw a re-run of last year’s inaugural women’s plate final, which Strood won in a very close 5 setter against Dartford-Women 1.  Strood were here again, seeking to defend their title, this time against Dartford-Eagles.

Strood were 3-0 winners this year: 25-22 / 25-12 / 25-18

The winner of the MVP award for the match showed a strong mixture of measured shots combined with the use of power when needed.  She showed consistent play and leadership of the team.  The winner was Amanda Haggerty (Strood).

Men’s Plate Final

Spitfire-1 reached the Plate final for the third year in a row and were looking to complete a hat-trick of wins.  Their relative experience showed against a young Strood-2 side and they took the first 2 sets in relative comfort.  Despite a stronger display by Strood in the 3rd set, Spitfire took the match 3-0: 25-13 / 25-13 / 25-23.

The MVP award went to the player who was the most consistent server and hitter, overall; he mixed things up when needed, to keep Strood on the back foot in defence.  The winner was Kevin Rai (Spitfire).

Stan Hastie Men’s Cup Final

It was an all-Dartford affair, this year, with our Men’s Div 1 winners, Oasis, looking to inflict a second successive Cup Final defeat upon Dartford-1.  Dartford-1 had reached the Final for the 5th season in a row (we had no finals in either 2020 or 2021 due to Covid) and stood at 2 wins / 2 defeats going into this game.

The first set went very close, with a couple of errors by Dartford-1 at the end of the set giving Oasis the set by 26-24.  Oasis pushed harder in the second set, restricting Dartford-1 to just 11 points.  Oasis maintained their advantage to take set 3, with the final scoreline being 26-24 / 25-11 / 25-21 to Oasis, which was their first ever win in the Stan Hastie Cup Final and completed a League and Cup double for them this season.

There were a number of contenders for the match MVP award, on both sides of the net.  The winner showed all-round consistency and accuracy, with good distribution; the Award went to Curtis Franklin-Burridge (Dartford-1).

June Morgan Women’s Cup Final

The game saw the top 2 teams in Women’s Div 1 come together.  They had been separated in the league only on sets difference, with the head-to-head record for 2025-26 standing at 1-1 (and with both teams having won their away fixture against the other).

Maidstone Diamonds made the stronger start, taking the first set to 17.  Tonbridge came back in set 2 to level at 1:1, with the set score at 26-24.  Diamonds started the 3rd set with a run of serves from Mariana Smart to open up an 8-0 lead, which they maintained and expanded for the remainder of the set, taking it to 11.

The 4th set was pretty much neck-and-neck all the way up to 18-18, but Diamonds found another gear and took the set to 20, for their first-ever win in the women’s Cup Final.

Final match result: 25-17 / 24-26 / 25-11 / 25-20

The match MVP award went to Diamonds’ Edit Szanto-Muntyan for her all-round display of controlled aggression on service and hitting, while staying calm under pressure.
